These figurines are my interpretation of Matariki.
A combination of Greek myth ( Pleijades/Seven Sisters) and symbolic feather cloaks woven with flax and cotton tread and white feathers.
They were originally made for the Matariki Exhibition 2009 at Origin Kerikeri. At the time they were embellished with peahen feathers and wetfelted woolen cloaks. They have been displayed at several Matariki exhibitions since.
2016 they’ve got a makeover with additional woven white feather cloaks instead of the peahen feathers and wooden stands and were displayed at the Matariki exhibition at the Waitangi Treaty House.
